Nearly two years ago, the Southton Meadows HOA put out a request for proposals for a community newsletter. They wanted a custom template that could adapt to different occasions throughout the year, make each new issue easy to produce, and give important updates and community stories room to stand out.

We brought the board together and jumped into a creative brainstorming session. In about two hours, we had a name, a rough template, and a direction. Then they handed me the job of bringing it all together, including:

• A dedicated Gmail account for the newsletter, which I set up and managed
• A personalized Linktree for community resources
• Accessible documents, archives, and templates
• A repeatable workflow for monthly edits and publication

Newsletters can be hit or miss, but they offer a simple starting point for community engagement. Southton Meadows had nothing circulating and plenty of neighbors who wanted to feel more connected. The HOA believed this was something their community would welcome… and they were right.

Since then, Around the Meadow has spotlighted neighborhood small businesses, shared family recipes, given residents a place to showcase their work, and featured neighborhood competitions. What started as a template has become something neighbors look forward to each month.
